Open Studios at the Braunschweig University of Art is a regional, national, and international event. Through art, design, and the sciences and the interaction between them, the Braunschweig University of Art (HBK) inaugurates new potential into the world for you. The HBK is concerned with traditions and transformation and actively participates in the cultural change of our society.

The classes of John Armleder, Candice Breitz, Asta Gröting, Olav Christopher Jenssen, Corinna Schnitt and Thomas Virnich, just to name a few, along with an additional 16 art classes from renowned artists, of which include art in action and performance art, will be presenting artwork from students made over the previous year and the final diploma works from graduating students. Bachelor and master presentations from design students will be shown in addition to presentations and lectures in art history and media studies. For the first time, the HBK will be present in many different locations in Braunschweig.

Come to Braunschweig, be our guest, look around the campus and the city, and then maybe you will see the world from a different point of view.

Greetings from the Mayor of Braunschweig, Dr. Gert Hoffmann

Gert Hoffmann

A city full of tradition. Braunschweig belonging to the Hansa League and being a residence city is not like any other with it’s numerous research institutions of in- ternational ranking. The significance of our modern knowledge based society is hardly to be overestimated. It is the duty of the city to develop and assure the future of Braunschweig as a research headquarters in the long term.

Next to a row of scientific technological research and teaching fa- cilities, Braunschwieg has also a special gem, the University of Art of Lower Saxony, one of the most important universities of art in Europe. Coming out of Braunschweig are new, exciting, artistic, creative, sci- entific impulses into the country. Numerous artists develop here, and after their studies give a name to our city that will always be tied to- gether with the Löwenstadt, city of the lion. Therefore, I am proud of our University of Art, and it brings me pleasure to wish all visitors of this year’s »Tage der offenen Tür«, Days of Open Studios, a thrilling time and success to all students and professors.
